Sister Solano Granger

(1905 -1997)

Working at Alverno was Sister Solano's third career begun after working for 32 years at St. Mary's Hill Hospital.

First, she was seamstress for all the sisters living at Alverno. Then, in 1970 with the influx of non-traditional-aged students due to curricular changes at the college, she filled a need. She started what was then known as the

Babysitting Service in one small room on the first floor of the LA Building. Eventually the service moved into what is  now Elizabeth Hall and morphed into today's nationally accredited Alverno Early Learning Center.

Her legacy lives on in today's Alverno Early Learning Center.

In 2012, the National Accreditation Commission for Early Care and Education Programs (NAC) announced that Alverno Early Learning Center had been awarded accreditation. As a NAC accredited center, Alverno Early Learning Center was recognized as an early care and education program that exemplifies excellence in the care of young children.
